Our Mission
Partners for Women's Equality pairs volunteers with grassroots organizations worldwide to advance human rights for women.
Our Vision
Women will have equal rights, power, and respect as valued members of the human family across all cultures and nationalities.
Our Core Beliefs
- Each person deserves equal rights.
- Values related to gender roles must be challenged and changed by both men and women.
- Women throughout the world need to be empowered. Improving the lives of women will improve the lives of their families, their communities, and the world. To improve the status of women, it is critical to improve educational opportunities for children.
- PWE supports the Beijing Declaration to advance women and improve their capacity to control their futures by
- reducing violence
- improving access to land and property
- improving access to health care
- improving economic opportunity
- supporting leadership development
- improving access to education
- Grassroots organizations deliver the most effective incremental change in the status of women. There are grassroots organizations throughout the world working to improve the status of marginalized women, but they struggle to meet their mission without sufficient skilled staff and leadership. We are responsible for building the capacity of organizations working to empower marginalized women by building leadership and increasing organizational effectiveness.
- Building long-term relationships across cultures provides opportunities for individuals to build long-term personal relationships. Partnerships with organizations already established can deliver services that meet the needs of their own community.
- Building and supporting grassroots organizational capacity can be achieved through skilled volunteers. We can make a significant difference by organizing and empowering a large volunteer community. Partners and volunteers can promote world peace, mutual learning, and common cause.
Our Philosophy
Partners for Women’s Equality works alongside our partners with humility as learners. We ask how we can help; we do not tell others what they need. We are, first and foremost, active listeners, patient in our discovery and practical in our approach. We seek partners and volunteers who can fulfill the needs as defined by our grassroots partners with projects under the control of those partners. Our success will depend on the quality of our listening and the posture we assume as mutual learners in our growth toward ensuring all women have basic human rights.
We recognize that within each society there exist marginalized women who lack the opportunities, power, and resources to develop to their fullest. We focus on partners who work with or for those women or with the children who may become marginalized, working to change the systems that continue to marginalize women. We seek to create a resource base for the future generations to assure equality and recognition of the contributions of women to economics and culture.
