Volunteer Match

PWE's Volunteer Match Program matches the skills of volunteers with the needs of our International Partners, which are organizations that are working to improve conditions for women and their families. We work with organizations that provide a wide variety of activities. Some are direct service organizations, and some focus on education and policy change. At the present time, all of our International Partners are located in Brazil, but we will expand to more countries in the future.

We assess both the organization for its needs and the volunteer for her/his skills. Our partnership with each International Partner is expected to last for many years. Read about each of our International Partners in the Project Directory.

Needs of International Partners

Common problems with the operation of many community organizations that work with women and children issues:

  • Funding problems: A general lack of funds causes overworked staff. A lack of diversity in funding sources creates problems with stability, planning, and efficiency. Corruption in governments, funding organizations, and NGOs brings about distrust as well as loss of valuable resources. In most developing countries, there is not a culture of giving, so developing alternative funding sources is difficult.
  • Staffing deficiencies: Marginalized communities find qualified staff only with much difficulty. Lack of funds makes staff training a challenge. Too many community organizations lack appropriate administrative skills, planning skills, computer skills, fundraising skills, and nonprofit management skills.
  • Technology insufficiencies: Lack of adequate database, Internet access, website, access to a computer and technology inhibits organizational effectiveness (i.e., communication, record-keeping, online education, resource identification, process efficiency, etc.).
